I want to help people in China? How do I start?

The death toll has risen to 12,000.

This so sad, we are so lucky to be alive, I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to be there and not know where your family is at, or not know if you will even eat to be alive tomorrow. Maybe I can export a container full of first aid kits and canned foods. I just dont know how to go about this, I dont want people thinking that it isn't ligit and that I'm keeping the money or food. How do I do this so that its credible, and people would want to help. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Talk to churches, schools, community centers, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc. They probably can give you information on who to contact as well as a list of items that need to be shipped. Good luck and THANK YOU!! :)
Reply:Donate blood. You won't know if your blood will actually make it to China, but you will know that you could have potentially saved a life by donating it.
Reply:Call your local Red Cross office.
Reply:Bless you. Your heart is in the right place. However, due to politics and other crap, you cannot just send over a box of band-aids and food. I really wish it was easy to send help.

Other countries are sending money to help China (germany, US, EU, Japan, etc.). Although first aid supplies are needed, the largest expenses will be with rebuilding. Also, medical practitioners are in demand.

The UN is also helping. By supporting programs offered by the UN you could be of benefit. http://www.un.org/works/ I know the China earthquakes are devistating, however there are also many other problems that require attention.

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to ensure that your donations make it to the appropriate recipients. I promise, I'm not trying to be a cynic, but a lot of the aid groups that appear after disasters like this may not be legit (clearly seen with the Hurricane Katrina).

You can still make a humanitarian difference by supporting the UN, or even by helping around your own city. You can help with soup kitchens or donate your food locally. I know that China is a major disaster of epic proportions and you just want to help but the best thing you can really do is support those who are helping China.
