I feel like we need to stay and help free the people of the alkida (forgive spelling please) they just use people lives so they can kill americans that is insane and the U.S. can't let maniacs like that run-a-muck
and if we leave that shows that the U.S. is weak and our enemys might rise up (china, Russia, other middle eastern countries) and get us.......
man the world is a rough place......and our kids are going to deal with our desions. my english teacher once told me

Pray for our kid not us..................God protect our soldiers.
How do you feel about the war in Iraq?
I think we went inti Iraq for the wrong reason, but now that we are there we need to finish the job. The real threat to the world is coming from Iran. The longer we put off dealing with Iran the more costly it will be.
Reply:You obviously aren't a patriot. There is no way any patriot would happily sacrifice thousands of his countrymen to bring democracy to a country hundreds of miles away.
If Al Qaeda was there all the time, how come we never cared until 9/11? This ridiculous War on Terror is a stupid PR stunt by a mentally ill Texan that has increased terrorism and sacrificed lives.
Reply:The actual term is MOOTW (military operation other than war). We're there helping the Iraqi people and training their police force to control crime. They love us over there, and I'm glad to be serving.
Reply:This is long. I'll answer the issues one by one.
"free the people of the alkida"
From Al-Qaeda I guess. Al-Qaeda is not restricting the freedoms of anyone. Al-Qaeda wasn't ruling Iraq. Al-Qaeda is not ruling anywhere in the world. Iraq was under the rule of Saddam, a nasty greedy dictator (like many others). Half Iraq loved him, half Iraq hated him, same as almost all heads of states including the one in the USA. Saddam was not related to Al-Qaeda and the last thing he wanted was to affect the value of the dollar. He was sitting over huge piles of us$ cash, not gold, not stock, not any other currency. In fact 911, and the changes in foreign policy after that, damaged him a lot due to the fall of the dollar. And, he's gone now. So, there's no reason to free anyone. There wasn't from the beginning, but now there's less than that.
"just use people lives so they can kill americans"
Al-Quaeda is just a concept. Most of the extremist groups looking for attention claim to be affiliated. Including insurgents in Iraq. And a lot of attacks were pinned to Al-Quaeda for political reasons. Just take a look at the murder of Benazir Bhutto. She was a muslim, conservative muslim, closer to the muslim people. On the other side was Pervez Musharraf, a president with sympathies for the western world and a declared enemy of terrorism. Why would Al-Quaeda kill her? Why not let her win the election? She would have taken Pakistan to a position closer to the (alleged) Al-Quaeda's objectives. It doesn't make sense. But it helps to keep the public image of the evil Al-Quaeda alive.
You have to differentiate between a terrorist that goes all the way to your country and blow things up (all saudi arabs by the way) and people killing US soldiers in their own land. I guess that if the chinese army invades the USA and kills your family and friends you're going to get mad at them. Or do you think it would be more appropriate to thank them for freeing you?
Also, you have to ask yourself why a saudi arab would want to kill US citizens. Maybe it's because Saudi Arabia is under the rule of a tyrant king, a good friend of the USA (government) that gets a LOT of support from it (including you money). Why Saddam and not Fahd or Abdullah? The kings of Saudi Arabia has been as bad and worse than Saddam. Religious persecution, massive killings and enriching themselves from their people. What's the difference? Why not free Saudi Arabia?
"the U.S. can't let maniacs like that run-a-muck"
Yes, it can. The USA is not in charge of policing the world. It's not doing it anyway. It's using that as an excuse to enforce its political agenda with the support of its citizens. The US foreign policy does nothing for you and it's costing you more than 50% of your income.
"shows that the U.S. is weak"
A country is as weak as their citizens. The USA is a strong government because it's able to impose its will upon its people with no room for opposition. And with a strong army that can impose its will upon any other army. The day you can board a plane with a gun, a knife, a screwdriver or a nail file, the day you can travel across your country without being stopped at checkpoints, the day you can trade anything with anyone with no embargo regulations or suspicion of money laundering, the day you can eat, smoke or drink whatever the heck you want, that's the day you'll be strong enough to make a strong country. I'm not saying that doing that things makes you strong. I'm saying that the freedom to make the choices for your life makes you strong. If your government tells you what to eat, what to smoke, what to believe, you're weak. Weak citizens under the rule of a strong government make a weak country. All it takes to put you down is to take over the government. Once the government is under control, you all are under control. It's happening right now. Iraq lost its government and the most powerful army in the whole world can't put it under control.
"our enemys might rise up"
Yeah, right. Do you really believe that someone is going to invade the USA? A crazy maniac is going to wake up one day and say "hey, they're weak, let's invade"? It's ridiculous. Just think about China, whose main source of economical bonanza is the USA buying stuff from it. They're sitting over a huge pile of papers saying that the USA is going to pay them back. Do you think it's wise for them to ruin the production machine that's supposed to pay them back? With the USA under China rule, those paper are worth less than toilet paper and probably 80% of China's production loose its customers. Wake up, you're living in a movie from the 60's.
"man the world is a rough place"
It's always been...
"and our kids are going to deal with our desions"
First thing you said that makes sense. You're going to vote soon. Remember this.
"Evil trumphs when Good men do nothing"
Exactly. The good men in the USA are doing nothing. It's a lot easier to swallow it one drop at a time.
"God protect our soldiers"
I hope he does and make the next president withdraw all troops from all places around the world. The soldiers are going to be safe and the people of the USA will focus on solving their real problems.

Reply:i don't like war aggression generates more aggression.
Reply:I feel like people are very extreme on one side or the other. I think history will judge if the Iraq war was right or not.
Reply:why dont you go over and see how you feel about it and if we should stay and let our guys get killed for no reason. its not worth getting our guys killed for nothing.
Reply:Wow, you really have no idea about the overall picture. It saddens me that the only thing that most Americans know is what Fox news tells you. I'm all for the war but it's got nothing to do with helping the nice Iraqis have freedom or about oil. There are a lot of politics under this. I also don't believe our soldiers should get stop lossed and kept there. We have a lot of illegals who want to live here. "Here's your rifle, see you in 4 years." There is also the fact that we could "win" this war without ever putting an American on the ground. We should have made an example out of Afghanistan and said if you do it again we remove you from the planet, end of discussion. Then we would be missing the fact that it was mostly Saudis on those planes huh? That's another issue totally, imagine that... America is already weak, we're already in debt far above our heads. We have a lot of issues that need fixing. Rome is burning and Nero has stopped fiddling long enough to run for office once more. Until people in this country stop worrying about Britney Spears and football games and start picking up books about politics and the middle east and learning real issues, we will continue our downward spiral.
Reply:The truth is we need to leave asap We went in for one thing and removed the dictator and freed the country. We should have never entered Iraq in the first place and don't tell me that saddam was a threat. Where is your proof? I am glad they are free but it is time for them to police there own country. If they ask for assistance I would support sending troops but if they don't want us in there who are we to say that we should stay. This war must end.
Reply:there is no war, its more like a security operation. Its about time Iraqis took over security
Reply:We should stay. It's making a huge difference in the lives of the people there.
Reply:2 to the chest 1 to the head.
Semper Fidelis.
strictly business
Reply:We should never have gone to begin with......No one there wants freedom... they each want to be Saddam Hussien
We should have used the national guard to patrol our borders, spent a good portion on arming the Kurds, and spent the rest of the money on finding an alternative energy source.
at that point, all of the countries in the middle east could have gone back to being third-world......
Reply:I think we got off to a bad start, and that the president could've done alot more planning when he decided to go through with this. However, we're finally starting to see improvements, and we're keeping pace with al-qaeda. It would be a disaster if we just up and left.

How Can Superpowers Survive when Global Warming and Low Earth resources is killing everything?
All media groups are talking about the rise of China and India as world superpowers in 20-30 years. Surely global warming and no oil will make everyone poor even the U.S. in 20 years.
It's all going to run out anyway!
How Can Superpowers Survive when Global Warming and Low Earth resources is killing everything?
The concept of "peak oil" and "global warming" is not talked about very much in major media in the U.S. because it doesn't help you sell the latest gizmo from China. Our media is way too perky for my tastes. As ocean levels rise and climates change, there will be crop failures, human displacements and starvation in poor countries.
The Western standard of living will be hurt as we reach the peak of oil production/capacity world-wide. We still rely on fossil fuels for about 86% of US energy needs, and of course just about every tangible product and even food crops (fertilizer %26amp; transportation) rely on oil production.
The irony of all this is the fact that most major businesses and countries realize the phenomenon of Peak Oil and Global Warming and they are positioning themselves to take advantage of it. The passage North of Canada will open up and has already been a point of international controversy.
We've had the internet bubble, we're experiencing the downside of the housing bubble. The latest issue of Harper's predicts the rise of the green industry bubble, which will help keep the economy going until it too bursts.
Reply:This is interesting as I was told a few years ago by a American that this would happen.

The North American Union on spp.gov is this good??or BAD for the US??
http://www.spp.gov/ on this site they sugarcoat the details but its simple the leaders of Mexico, Canada and US...are talking about a merger of the 3 nations to compete economicly against the EU and the rising economies China and India.
The North American Union on spp.gov is this good??or BAD for the US??
There are lots of, lets say, ignorant people (in the nicest way) out there who believe if they ignore it, it won't happen but it is inevitable. In order for the North American economy to compete against the European Union, and more importantly, China, North America must form a united front.
And don't let the conspiracy theorists frighten you. It's not at all evil. The US is not going to stop being the US. Is France no longer full of lazy wine guzzling frog eaters? The US constitution will not be burned alongside a flag with cackling businessmen standing around it rubbing thier hands together.
I am a Canadian and I don't want to be an American either. And I won't be. I may have an Amero passport and Ameros in my pocket, but it doesn't make me anymore American than a European passport makes French German.
Also, It will likely be a great investment. So look out for the release of the Amero soon. If you get in on the ground floor, it will likely make some great short term gains!
And finally, please realise it is not a conspiracy. My mother called me the other day all shocked about it "Did you hear?" Like it started yesterday. This has been in the news a long time, well reported by CNN and the CBC in Canada. Just because people refuse to watch real news and turn the channel to Extra because Paris Hilton's new hairdo is all the rage doesn't mean the government and media are hiding the truth. It's a shock to me that it's such a shock to everyone. It's kinda hillarious. Everyone getting enraged because Lou Dobbs didn't hit them with a mallet and force them to listen. Let's all go sue McDonald's for getting us fat too. WATCH THE NEWS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD!!!

Reply:Despite their anti-NAFTA demagoguery, almost every independent and U.S. government study shows that Perot and the other anti-NAFTA leaders are dead wrong on the free trade pact. For example, it is estimated that there will be a net increase of as many as 200,000 new jobs as a result of increased U.S. exports to Mexico under the NAFTA. Today, trade with Mexico alone sustains at least 700,000 jobs in the U.S. Moreover, the NAFTA will help address many of the other concerns raised by NAFTA critics. The agreement will accelerate the rate of rising Mexican wages, it will address environmental concerns along the border and inside Mexico, it will help lock into place Mexico's free market and democratic reform programs, and it will diminish over time the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs crossing the U.S. border.

Most successful race currently? In 2050?
Race of the following decent:
East Asian
European
Indian
Pacific Islander
Southeast Asian
Mideastern
African
PLEASE DO NOT SAY THE HUMAN RACE- THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RACES...YOU CAN'T DENY IT
Personally, I think the European Race is most successful as most of its countries are successful. In the future I think it is East Asian because of the rise of China will make a lot more rich people and due its large population, it will be more successful. In 2050, East Asia will have an average per capita of $37,000 and has a population of 1.5 billion. Europeans and their descents will have a population of around 800 million, each with $50,000. Overall, East Asians will be more successful in the future, but European race will be wealthier by alittle (1.3 times).
Chinese is NOT a race, it is a part of the race of East Asia (Korea, Japan, China, Mongolia). Kind of like how British is part of White or European.
Most successful race currently? In 2050?
ide say whites and east asians.
Reply:This depends completely on your definition of success.
Certainly, the east asians could be successful in the future based on the trend, but what it they never make regulations to control pollution? They could be dead and successful.
The Russians certainly said they were successful, but in the end, they failed.
The Western countries, have been asked to include all races in their success, so I suspect if that continues then your question will be pointless in 2050.

Does it say in the Bible?
That the Eagle and Bear will rise against the Dragon (or Serpeant)? Someone I know once said this is symbolic of the United States (Bald Eagle) and Russia (Bear) rising against China (Dragon) in a WWIII type war.
Does it say in the Bible?
After reading all the answers before mine, I am amazed at the people who answer this question without any knowledge of the Bible at all. How can you answer without ever reading, let alone studying, the Bible? It's downright dangerous and reveals ones ignorance. This text is clearly Nostradamus. It is not in the Bible, and the book of Revelation (the last book in the Bible) is a symbolic book of eschatology (end times). It was written by the Apostle John while exiled on the the Island of Patamos, NOT John the Baptist!
According to Nostradamus the Eagle represents the United States and the Bear is Russia. The quatrains have proved unreliable since most all of the interpretations and predicted dates have gone by as false and unfulfilled.
Reply:well mostly the dragon is the symbol of the devil so i am not sure i would have to see the actual context as that book is full of symbolish as it is the dream of john the baptist.
Reply:yes people have said that but during the cold war they left out the Dragon part and said the Eagle will take down the Bear. So you see it keeps getting reinterpreted for every age.
Reply:This is kinda nutty. It also says that it is okay to keep slaves. Ignore both of these things. Heck, go ahead and ignore the whole damn thing. Unless you need help in figuring out how to be nice to other people.
Reply:Sounds like the wrong interpretation.
Reply:go to http://www.endtime.com/
yeah, it is interesting topic.
Reply:This is one of Nostradamus's quatrains. It's not in the bible.
Search Nostradamus at the historychannel.com
These quatrains are not predictions. No one has ever avoided catastrophe by finding a quatrain and saying "Look, here. If you don't wear purple socks today, then France will melt into a steaming pile of cheese." You have to look back at historical events and then tie Nostradaums's "predictions" into what happened.
Reply:Funny, I read the bible from cover to cover and never saw anything like that in it.
Reply:It's in Revelations 4:7
Reply:Look in the book of Revelation--the last book in the Bible--it's full of interesting symbols and things. You can go to www.biblegateway.com to search for that stuff.
Reply:i dont think its in the bible. but maybe. i dont recall reading that. but the bible is big, so I might have just forgoten a part. lol

Just be on the winning team... skip to the answers at the very end ;)
Reply:I don't think so. but if it does it will be in Revelations ( it has that type of stuff). i doubt it has anything to do with World War though.

Reply:It would be my guess he's describing something out of the biblical book of Revelations (last book of the new testament). This book does contains prophesies of upcoming events such as Jesus' return, though not everything in this book need be a prophesy. Remember, the author was writing to seven churches in europe. He may have just as easily been describing political figures in the day and time, much like we would describe the "donkeys for republicans".
A good source to check out would be www.biblegateway.com to read about the book and what these "code words" could mean. Be it prophesy or other.
Reply:I think that might be nostradamus.
Reply:NO, the only time eagle or bear type creatures are used as symbols in the Bible is in the book of Daniel, and there is no mention of a dragon there. the dragon in the Bible is used exclusively as a symbol for the devil and nothing else.
Reply:I checked with BibleGateway.com because I have never heard of that being in the Christian Bible and I've read three different version of it. I have, however, heard that a scripture similar to that one is listed in the Qur'an, but according to Bible Gateway, there is no scripture in any version of the Christian Bible with the words "Eagle" and "Bear" in the same scripture (unless you count Deuteronomy 32:11 of the KJV version that says "As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings"). Therefore, I'm inclined to believe that it does not, in fact, exist within the Christian Bible.

Just be on the winning team... skip to the answers at the very end ;)
Reply:I don't think so. but if it does it will be in Revelations ( it has that type of stuff). i doubt it has anything to do with World War though.

Answer this question with honesty?
Would China screw up in:
1. the olympics
2. and the future?
The reason why I asked this was because my conservative (pretends to be moderate) history teacher says this when answering questions about the rising of China. that the Chinese are gonna screw themselves up. I am Chinese BTW.
Answer this question with honesty?
Well they haven't so far. i hope it is a wonderful Olympics only because of the young people that have worked so hard to get there.i would like to see their dreams come true.
Reply:One has to differentiate between China, the people, and China, the Chinese government. If we're speaking of the government, I think it's capable of doing anything. China isn't the friendliest of places towards its citizens. I also think China in the future represents our biggest threat in many ways. Economically, militarily, and much worse, in manufacturing. China is currently spending even more money on their military then we do. I seem to recall a military minion in an interview saying the people of China wanted an aircraft carrier and maybe the government would grant their wish to show their growing ability to defend themselves. That sounds just like this administration. Hope your not offended for offering my opinion.

the usa is having that problem, too. maybe things simply get too big to manage and needs to allow segments to break off and do their own thing. know what i mean?
a rigid, structured and uniform society forced upon people destroys the bonds and ties of diverse cultures. if everybody wears the same uniform and are make to conform to a stalin or a mao se tung, they tire of it. it begins to breed resentment and anger and, finally, hatred and revolution. and it was revolutions that put stalin and mao se tung into power in the first place.
maybe it is a natural cyclical phenomenon to be expected. maybe the usa is moving into that anger stage at this point. seems kinda angry to me. what next?

3 or 4 superpowers?
With the rise of China lately, the expansion and rejuvenation of Europe and all the talk of India's bright future are we looking at the rise of 3 new superpowers in addition to America? What do you think the situation may be in the interplay of these powers should this scenario arise?
3 or 4 superpowers?
Depends what you mean by super power. The only superiority that America has at this point is military superiority. In almost every other field there is at least another country that is at par or has surpassed the USA. However in military might it is far ahead of others. USA spend 50% of the world's total military bill, ALONE. In science and technology, healthcare, education, literacy, human rights %26amp;etc. in every other facet USA trails far behind.
If you look at the pattern it would make you wonder, is USA really the premier nation of the world that the world looks as guidance or is it simply a nation that has forgotten its principle of excellence and has gone ahead to become just a bully. Yes, militarily, USA outguns most other countries one-on-one, but in this day and age one-on-one doesn't happen and guns are not the only weapons either.
The economy feeds everything and the US economy is certainly not the healthiest in the world. It is still moving ahead due to inertia. Power goes in cycles, you rise you fall, you rise again, fall again. Europe was once the premier continent (albeit divided into many nations), then Europe went down, its on the rise again. both China and India were very advanced civilizations in the past: heck the Chinese made gunpowder and the Indians created the number system we use today.
And given China's size and growth rate they can very well overtake the US economy in 15-20 years. They already spend about 2-4% of their GDP on defense and they are not too far behind. Imagine what will happen when their GDP becomes as big as the USA's.
Reply:no
Reply:A decent question! I see the rise of India and Europe more aalong the lines of economic superpowerdom rather than military. China, and to a lesser extent Russia, have the military capability to achieve that status. One question is that which ultimately helped bring down the USSR: Can a nation be a military superpower with third world economic power? The net effect on America is tthat we will have to engage all parties, in the marketplace, if possilbe..

Can Democracy or Governance make people better lives?
This issue came out due to the rise of China and India. Of course everyone understands that the political power and paradigm seem to be shifting from America to the Asia Giant, China %26amp; India.
Can Democracy or Governance make people better lives?
Your question is somewhat confusing due to the incorrect grammar, but the answer of course is that Democracy is superior to other types of governance because people who enjoy freedom and work for themselves are much more likely to be productive.
Your statement about the rise of China and India is incorrect, however. Political power is not shifting to Asia. Since that's not phrased as a question, but as an opinion, then I think it's only appropriate to reply with an opinion.

Is America scared?
Is America scared of the rise of China and India in past ten years. Theirs also talks that China and India could end up being the next superpowers by the mid century. So is America or the U.S gov scared that it might lose its superpower dominance over the world?
Is America scared?
No just stupid. Come on folks USA is the world's most powerful nation why earth should they give credence to a second rate economy?
Reply:with the rise of illegal immigration, and dependency of foreign oil we already lost our superpower status. wait until our new president takes command and Iran starts flexing their muscle. we will cower like small children.

Is the 21st Century an Asian Century?
With the rise of China and India with double the speed of growth that US and Europe have or have had in past 200 years and even growing at a faster pace, with Both India and China have Nuclear Stealth Capability and Space Research capability and large Foreign Reserves, with more technologies being patented by Chinese and Indian companies, and more European and American companies being bought by China and India, and with the worlds second and third largest army, third and fourth largest air force and third and fifth largest navy, are these countries going to be the next superpowers replacing Europe and American at centres of Power? And with Europe and America caught in a war with more spending on war than on economic recovery, is it that the rise of China and India as the center of world politics with Japan and South East Asia not far behind go unprecedented or will the bubble burst? Is this the beginning of the Asian Resurgence and an Asian Century?

More Tech Transfers To China %26amp; Bush Uses Al-Qaeda
http://www.rense.com/general76/morethc.h...
The administration and the media regularly bemoan the fact that the US suffers a huge trade deficit every year with China. This growing deficit is being used to push China to open her markets to more US goods. That's all good and proper, except that China only wants American high tech/military related imports. After all, that's one of the main reasons for communist China opening up her markets to capitalist investments.
As the AP reported, "The Chinese government has repeatedly said that China wants to buy more goods from the US as an effort to narrow the trade gap, but Washington refuses to ease restrictions on exports of high-tech products to China." Well, that isn't exactly true. There is a division within the Commerce department that has been facilitating these high tech transfers to China for years. It's really a matter of China always wanting to push the envelop of what is permitted, and the Bush administration wanting to not make it obvious that it is selling out our own national security to both Russia and China.
Last December the administration gave the go ahead to sell China a state of the art nuclear reactor, which has a lot of technology applicable to China's growing nuclear powered fleet of ships. If the national security issue wasn't bad enough, the Bush White House decided the sale was going to be financed by the US taxpayer (Export-Import Bank), supposedly because it was going to mean "jobs for Americans." China has billions in reserves. Why do we continue to insist on giving China government loans?"
The Hastening American Decline: Transfer of the American Industrial Base
http://www.gooff.com/news/read.asp?ID=14...
The transfer of the American industrial base to remote regions of the planet continues, especially to China. It is inescapable that the militarization of some of those regions to protect the prodigious capitalist investment must logically follow. In particular, the transfer of the American industrial base to China has already enabled them to radically improve their military strength, very often with American technology. This is a very ominous development for the American people and progressive societies everywhere. Globalysts are enemies of western democracies and have strong fascist tendencies. The Chinese economic model is the dream of all capitalists and the nightmare of everybody else.

Well, let's see. The US Government turned its back on manufacturing thirty years ago, and kept raising taxes on both companies and individuals to feed the uncontrollable debts, thereby raising the cost of goods and services produced in the United States to the point where they can no longer compete with goods and services produced in foreign nations, and only NOW do they realize there is a problem (but it's someone else's fault, of course).

2. The pressure for a better standard of living will force wages up in India and China.

China, India and Thailand could have grown in the 20th Century but because of the West influences in the early and mid 1900's (corruption, prostitution %26amp; drugs) both China and India became very conservative and close their doors to the outside world.
China is able to grow faster than India because China allow all the Chinese Citizens to participate in education while India has a class system
China and India has a culture that have survived for thousand of years. That culture is the reason why they both are able to rise above the competition.
The US culture? 100+ years....and 1/2 ga-y 1/2 corrupted
Reply:Probably. China's economy is strong I think, and I think India's is too. America has had a strong influence over since its run that it's amazing. But now, America becoming slowly becoming corrupt, and we're having worse and worse leaders, though admittedly sporadically. Our economy is slowing weakening, and this war against terrorism and Iraq isn't really helping either. In my incredibly personal opinion, the only reason why America is still such a popular place is because of our variety.

Reply:China and India will do everything to make sure it stays in the game. Can't afford to let the brits screw them over again, you just dont know how much suffering they can cause to others in the world.

ASIAN RACE BE SURPERIOR, PLEASE ANSWER?
Mao once called the US a paper tiger, an empty beast... how his words ring true in todays political/social climate yanks are the joke... fighting wars that cannot be won.. (have the US ever won????)..
LMAO at the recent lead toys for yanks scare... Whites poisoned asians with opium.. now the tables are turned... hurry fat yank children lick your new toys.... sure beats the transfats momma throws down your sewer throats
Reply:You sound like an imperialist beogeois capitalist. If you want to be superior, then your morals and values must be superior, and one of the values you need is that of humility and respect for others. If you act proud and boastful it shows you are inferior and not cultured. I suggest you go and study Confucius and Lau-Tsu.
Reply:The superior race!? What the hell? The last time any group of people used that term was during WWII- and I'm pretty sure you know who I'm talking about. Anyways, sure ya'lls economy is better and all, but there are too many countries who will be damned if you little rice eaters become the 'superior race'. I also think it helps to be taller than a majority of the worlds races too.
Reply:Survival and prosperity for the Chinese specifically depends on several things:
1. Decent alternative energy resources, almost immediately. Petrochemicals are either at or near peak. High sulfur coal reserves are considerable -- but are also largely responsible for some of the poisonous dust storms that have appeared recently in Asia. The need to maintain high energy consumption industries AND do so in an environmentally sound and generally sustainable way is/are essential for Chinese growth and success. This is the most major hurdle you face - as it is the most major hurdle for the US -- Europe is likely to survive the switchover unscathed.
2. Controlled population. The Party seems to be well on the way to managing this, but it is essential. Farmland, even rice land maintained at high production for too long without surcease degrades, and eventually dies -- even with petrochemicals and fertilizers --- without them, much quicker. China's population should be less than 500 million for sustainability, not nearly a billion. If the government can bring population down to 300 to 400 million in the next 50 years, China will continue to survive as it always has, no matter what happens elsewhere. If it cannot -- then China runs the risk of collapse.
3. To maintain inflow of money, quality in industry has to be stressed more than quantity. The problems that have recently emerged with toys made in China must not be allowed to generalize -- if they do generalize, all of the exporting that China is doing will begin to collapse.
4. Maintain social justice. Despite the horrific excesses of Maoism, progress overall was made toward a just and egalitarian society. That needs to continue. The emerging moguls of capital in China must remain regulated, they cannot be allowed to have slaves, they cannot be allowed to steal land, they cannot be allowed to return the common people to the state they were in during the final days of the Empire. If regulation fails, then over time rage will build in the common people effected, and the next revolution could easily by much worse that the last.
5. Military force means little, other than nuclear. You have enough nuclear weapons to dissuade people from thinking you are push overs. So does America. Everyone needs to make nice and avoid wars that could lead to mutual destruction. Saying "look at our army" is very pleasing to teenage boys -- and very stupid in worldwide diplomacy today. We have an idiot (GW Bush) who does such things. Show the historic wisdom of China and do not emulate a blundering moron.
6. Most importantly, never assume that anything is constant. The only constant is change. Yes, tomorrow 60% of American imports may come from China, but for all any of us know, day after tomorrow 2% may. That relates back to many things above in this note. Always expect change and prepare for it to the best of your ability. Only when you do and only when you can have you truly succeeded.
As for the Chinese themselves, except for their xenophobia, racism, sexism and homophobia I think they are generally pretty nice people. I have Chinese friends here -- but they obviously do not have any of those isms and phobias anymore. When the race as a whole gets over them. China will be ready to move forward into a long term, moderately dominant position among humans, both here, and when we find the stars and their new home-worlds - beyond.
Kind regards,
Reyn

USA so unpopular...?
Bush made the mistake of invading iraq for oil. People now think that America is the worst country. but russia and china are rising up to power economically. They both have potentials to become superpowers. I wouldn't imagine myself under chinese and russina influence. I always liked the american way of life and its influence. Can't USA do sth to remain powerful but also become a little bit more isolationist?
USA so unpopular...?
It's interesting that you only thought you needed to use capital letters for America and U.S.A but, three other countries didn't merit that.Could it be that it is the usual American arrogance that makes the rest of the world hate America.
Fiona, you have just said something else that make people angry with your country by saying "We saved the people from Hitler" again you disregard the rest of the WW11 allies who were fighting that war before your country decided to join, which was only after Pearl Harbour.Australia,Canada,India as it was at that time,New Zealand and many African countries as well as Russia and China.Next time think about what you are saying, people may just start to respect your country a little more.
Reply:Most countries feel intimidated by America. Most people misunderstand the Americans. I love America. I don't llike it's politics, especially now. If it's not Bush it will be someone else. When a man/womand steps up to the top, the power and greed drive them crazy. They lie to us and we accept it like the fools we are becuase we can't face the truth. China has always been a superpower they just don't flaunt it like we do.
Most wars are for taking something that doesn't belong to us. We are still living in the past glory of WWII where we saved people from Hitler. Those days are long gone...the way of life has changed. We are now living in denial. It started with Vietnam and I don't see it getting any better.

Is the USA losings its power?
Ever since World War II, the United States has used its military and economic superiority to promote a stable world order that has, on the whole, kept the peace and spread prosperity. But the United States increasingly lacks both the power and the will to play this role. It isn’t just Iraq, though Iraq has been profoundly destabilizing and demoralizing. Many other factors erode U.S. power: China’s rise; probable nuclear proliferation; shrinking support for open trade; higher spending for Social Security and Medicare that squeezes the military; the weakness of traditional U.S. allies — Europe and Japan.
no longer does other countries listen to them and do what they say like in the cold war era, also soon oil could be traded in euros and not the dollar thats what iraq wanted to do any way.
so what do you think is it losing its edge
Is the USA losings its power?
Of course US is losing its edge, and US is not getting it back any time soon. Like a few previos posts, I blame it all on Bush. Had Al Gore been the president, the slide would not have been as drastic.
For a long time I refuse to believe Bush is the worst president US ever had, I wanted to leave that to Herbert Hoover, the president who oversaw the beginning of the Great depression, and chose to do nothing as his fellow countrymen suffered beside him. It is all because he believed that the government does not leverage its influence to its people's lives, for good or for bad.
Bush is completely oppostie. He did everything wrong for America:
1. He cut the rich's tax so that I got my $100 tax rebate while lost out on $10,000 federal services that I could use someday.
2. The whole nonsense on axis of evil.
3. Iraq War II (this thing spawned so many other issues, it's not even funny)
4. Social Security privatization crap (if we are allowed to invest with social security funds, what guarrantees do we have when we lost it all because of bad decisions?).
5. Ignoring Geneva convention so that our soliders can also be tortured without regard to the Geneva guidelines in an accordance with Bush's twisted idea of "enemy combatants" Abu Ghraib prison was inevitable. Now, we can't even close Guantanamo Bay detention camp even if we wanted to because no countries are willing to take their citizens back who are now the resident of the camp.
6. Justice Department scandals/Gonzales Fiasco (had Bush not being an idiot in the first place, Gonzales would not have to resign in disgrace, and Justice departmetn lawyers would not have such a low morale right now)
Subset of Iraq War II consequences:
(1) The military forces is spent, period. Lack of morales notwithstanding
(2) Everyone knows about American image abroad with the war.
(3) The war exposes the lack of sufficient support for our soliders and veterans, which are exposed by Walter Reed fiasco.
(4) The military equipments are worn out much faster in war time. We MUST continue the current level of the military spending for the next 10 years, in which I am not even sure will be enough to rebuild the infrastructures. This adds on top of babyboomers retiring and drawing from the social security funds that is still solvent because the babyboomer generation had not started drawing their funds yet.
Seriously, what had he done that would be a good lasting legacy for the future generations? Even Republicans don't consider him as a conservative and they just want him to go back to his texas ranch and never shows his face again. He is definitely not a moderate republican. Other than a moron, what else can he be?
Had Al Gore been the president. He would not even think about Iraq War II. We will not owe China %26amp; Japan so much money while still have a budget surplus. Gore also wanted to raise gas price to $3 a gallon by taxes (back in 1992 when he ran for prez)to support renewable energy resources %26amp; for all to conserve gas, now that we are paying $3 a gallon without much to show for it. We are also so very far behind in green technology comparing with the rest of the world.

Other than my absolute disdain for Bush, Gore could've only slowed the decline of US, but not stopped it. With 5% of world population, it's consuming 25% of resources. While china %26amp; india, projected to have half of the world's population within a decade, their citizens want to have the same level of consumption of US. There is no way that US could've compete in population and the infrastructure boom that China %26amp; India's respective economy are enjoying.

no longer does other countries listen to them and do what they say like in the cold war era, also soon oil could be traded in euros and not the dollar thats what iraq wanted to do any way.
so what do you think is it losing its edge

Is it Possible to study for a PHd while having a Full Time Job???
Hi Friends,
I have recently Completed my MA (International Politics and Human Rights) and I did my dissertation / thesis on "US Foreign Policy and China's Rising Superpower Status". I LOVED this topic so much that I would like to go and step further and do a PHd on it.
However, because I am now 23 years old, I strongly feel that I must now get my foot on the career ladder.
Is it possible to study for a Phd (Part time) while working (full time)???
Thanks Friends
Is it Possible to study for a PHd while having a Full Time Job???
Yes, many people do this way, especially in engineering. You need to complete course work requirements as a full time student. Probably this can be done in couple of semester. During this period you could complete all the required formalities for PhD (qualifier if required). Subsequently you can go back to your job and carry out research remotely. Course work for PhD is required mainly in US. If you are in europe, many of the universities don't even require course work.
Reply:A PHD requires FULL TIME attendance at University.
Reply:yes it is possible, but it may take you longer and you will definitely have to do work in the summer semesters.
Reply:It may be hard since you need a lot in concentrating on your way of getting a PhD, and you are working full time, so it will be very difficult for you to do so. Most people I know stay focus when they are getting a PhD, so they pretty much stop the working and concentrate on getting it. I would suggest you to do the same, besides after you get a PhD you may get a better job! "Or" you could get a part time job and get your PhD! If you can concentrate that is.
PS:What do I Know I'm just a 14 year old...
Reply:Only if you don't plan on sleeping.
I think the max time period for as PhD is 7 years. It takes 6 if you do it part time and don't drag your feet. I was working part time and doing a PhD part time. It's very difficult to do both and I had to drop it before I completed it due to the pressure. If you're only 23 and single, then I'd advise you to do the PhD full time. Earn more when you've completed.

Does anyone believe in Nostradamus' predictions?
According to some interpretations, we are just now beginning "the end of days". World economy is in turmoil; power in Russia, Middle East, and China are rising; US dollars are becoming worthless. Can anyone answer it without using religious references?
Does anyone believe in Nostradamus' predictions?
not really, just a bunch of generalizations
Reply:Isn/t it wonderful how all his predictions turn out to be correct AFTER whatever he predicted happened. If you twist and interpret his double talk long enough, you can come up with tomorrows winning lottery numbers (I wish) No, I do not believe he had any special insight of things to come. If you make enough predictions, some of them are bound to come true.
Reply:no
Reply:I think he could visualize some future events and he described the images quite well, especially for not having the knowledge of centuries of technological progress.
Reply:But there has been turmoil for years and years and years. Why are we any closer today than when Genghis Khan ran across Europe, or when the Black Death destroyed a lot of the world?
Reply:The I Ching, Mayan Calendar, and the Web bot project all agree that 2012 will be the close of an era.
Is that what you were looking for?
Reply:A lot of people do, to answer your question.
I don't, however. You can twist his already vague words enough to make it sound like he has predicted past events. But nobody can look at his words today, and tell us what will happen tomorrow.
It's still fun to follow, though.

His depiction of ww2 was amazing, the description of flight and of te masks used-were something he couldnt even concieve of back then. No suck technology-He described the men to look like pigs-with a big nose-showing the masks that we now call gas masks when ww2 happened.
Although I don't believe anyone can predict the end of th eworld, I do believe what he saw was a terrible mess of chaos that he probably had reason to believe was the end of the world-compared to what he was used to. We will be going through many destructive changes-hopefully we as humans can wake up and smell the roses- and act Green!
"Beasts ferocious from hunger will swim across rivers:
The greater part of the region will be against the Hister
The great one will cause it to be dragged in an iron cage,
When the German child will observe nothing."
With Hister as an anagram for "Hitler", this quatrain has Nostradamians certain that it predicts the final end of Adolf Hitler. Hitler is also refered to as one of Nostradamus' anti-christ figures by those who study and interprete his writings.
"Pig half-man. Here, he was attempting to describe how a man would look with what appeared to be a strange pushed up nose and the slick skull of a pig on a man's body. This was an accurate prediction (for a man who had no knowledge of why men might look this way) of the breathing masks and slick, leather headgear worn by fighter pilots during World War I."

We did not like what republicans have done for the last several years so we elected democrats and I frankly don't give a darn what the republican plans are. Although I think the dems will be a little fairer about letting the republicans speak in congress than the controlling little cons. leadership have been. We'll see.
Reply:This question and others like it miss the obvious point. The people voted against the Republicans in the last election. Democrats have been screaming for years that we need change. The Democrats now have control of Congress, or at least will after next month. It is no longer for the Republicans to shape policy. The Democrats now have the ball and it is time for them to turn their rhetoric into positive action to benefit the people. However, Democrats are still acting like the minority party. They are not giving us their plans for action, but are rather still blaming the Republicans for their lack of one and failed actions of the past. The question of whether Democrats have a plan is valid. The question of what is the Republican plan is dodging the issue.

Whats more beneficial, your country being strong or your ancestor's?
I'm a teenager born in the U.S. and raised here all of my life. My ancestors are of Han Chinese descent. My parents taught me that I must remain loyal to the country I am born in even if not many people will accept me. My homeland the U.S. is the current most powerful nation on earth but my ancestor's homeland, China is rising as well.
SO which do you think would benefit me more? I don't think the Chinese will give a damn about me but then again not everyone in the U.S. will recognize me as one of them... Right now my loyalty goes to my country but I just wanna see what you think.
Thanks and happy 2008
Whats more beneficial, your country being strong or your ancestor's?
I have no idea where my ancestors are from and don't care either. I love the country I was born in.
Reply:Although your cultural past helps to define who you are it is the future you must be concerned about. Defining yourself only helps you to create a baseline for which you measure your own progress in life. Without a baseline you can't tell how far you have come. Without concern about the future you are stuck in the past.
As seen in American Indian reservations the people can't seem to intergrate into society fully because they lost much of their ancestural culture in a relatively short period of time. In a way that was not of their choosing They lack a strong basis and self definition as a group in order to progress into the future.
Your ancestors seem to have choosen a life in the United States. A life that now includes the culture of the United States. You are not full blooded Chinese as far as culture goes. The change of culture can be hard on some but the strong will adapt and do what will benefit themselves and the future of thier families.
So your parents are right and farsighted no matter if you were born here or any other country.
Reply:I would say you should be proud of your heritage which in this case is Chinese and you'll also be pleased to know that in a matter of just a few years China will own the US so you have the best of both worlds.
Never deride your ancestry kiddo--China has a long rich history and is way more powerful than the US
Reply:I appreciate my heritage, but I am an American. I want my country to be strong. I think that the good cultural values of all the places we've come from help make the US what it is. I feel no loyalty to the countries my grandparents left, but I like what they brought here.

Opinion Question!!!?
When do you think sinonization will become strong enough to take over westernization or at least resist westernization altogether. China is rising, and Japan, Taiwan, and Korea are already as strong as western nations. With China, could their influence be able to match westernization?

Opinion Question!!!?
I don't think i see that happening, but if it would at all I agree that it wouldn't in this lifetime.

Will the USA remain the economic superpower?
From a non-biased, non-patriotic point of view, do you feel that the USA will remain the super-power for another 20+ years? With the likes of China forever rising to power in both economic and military might, and the likes of the European Union and their currency the Euro constantly rising far above the dollar, do you think the USA will last?
Will the USA remain the economic superpower?
It's unlikely. On a per capita basis, we're only 9th in the world, with several countries already richer than us. The root cause, tho, of America's developing economic decline is debt. We have far too much of it. Americans owe too much money, saving and investing far too little. America has a massive national debt to the rest of the world, and has made entitlement promises to Americans -- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security -- which have the entire country well on the road to functional insolvency. Debt is suffocating.
All of these factors are weighing on the US Dollar. Right now, America accounts for more than 1/4 of global GDP, which is why many people think it will last 'forever'. But the dollar, which is weak, weakening, and set to weaken *a LOT* further, is what will ultimately bring all these accounts due. As it weakens, our share of global GDP declines. The weak dollar also makes it much more expensive to import goods, and since we import the vast majority of the things we need, both nationally and individually, this means a lot of inflation in future.
Beyond our current share of GDP, the OTHER reason people usually cite for America's 'permanent' global superpower status is our military. But imagine a world -- not difficult to do -- where the dollar is so much weaker, making oil SO expensive that we can no longer fuel a military capable of projecting power.
That's where we're headed. America is, sadly, in the middle of a long term economic decline. Economic decline begets military decline. This is what happened to Greece, to Rome, to the Ottomans, to the French, the Spanish, the English. If history teaches anything, it's that it repeats. Nothing is certain except change.
Reply:unless nothing defies the usa, it will go on being super power in 20 years. but if the other countries like china, russia, and india merge their power, the usa's economic power will decrease. but i do not think that will happen like that. because the world is being governed by the money owners=capitalists. so it does not matter which country will be economic power. and i can say that super powered country is a subject for the ones who are in office.
Reply:My personal feeling is that we won't last much longer as the world's economic power. I think the major reason why is because of a lot of our social issues. I feel like, on average, the children are getting lazier, families are breaking apart, and these factors added to several others are breaking down our society. We will always have some of the brightest and most innovative people in the world, but I see that number decreasing in the future.
I'm in a graduate economics program, and I have to tell you that I am amazed at the ratio of Chinese and Indian (not Native American) students to American students. It's at least 10:1. These kids are so motivated to succeed and work so hard. I don't see the same thing from the American students. I realize that my school is a small sample, but I've lived in California, the Mountain West, and now New York and have encountered the same thing from coast to coast. Sorry about the rant!

How do Americans feel about your government wasting almost a trillion dollars in Iraq....???
while China's economy and development has superceded that of any developed western nation in the past 25 years, with the only social unrest being that of Tiananmen. Whilst the USA has had over 200 years to achieve a stable society, yet you are also 1 trillion$ in debt with the Communist Party of China, yet uphold a communist Cuban arms embargo, and have 1/6th of its pop'ln living on or below the subsistent level (and with no healthcare at all?) What kind of model are you? Your government loves throwing around words like 'freedom' and 'democracy', yet, domestically, you execute more people per pop'ln than ANY other country, you have mass murders/school shootings, your phone lines and e-mails are being tapped, and your government has convinced many young Americans to die for an unjust cause....
While all the time China is rising and is truly united.
Beijing Olympics 2008!
Welcome the world!
How do Americans feel about your government wasting almost a trillion dollars in Iraq....???
America has always butted its nose in other countries business trying to tell them how to live.
That is why we are in the mess we are in now.
Reply:When you start at nothing, any improvement moves you up the ladder but China still has more poverty than any other country in the world, more oppression, more human rights violations, more rats and more disease. Report It
Reply:The problem with that country, the one between Canada and Mexico, is that like in many other "democracy's" the voters are not very much aware of what,s going on or what is best for their interest in the long run, they don,t have what in Spanish we call elementos de juicio (don,t know translation). They are full of empty patriotism and religious fanaticism, most vote for what their religious leaders recommend. This apply to many other countries.
Perhaps we need a new World Government System.

We have not spent a trillion dollars in Iraq.
We have spent 500 billion in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
The US is not one trillion in debt to China.
China owns 368 billion in US treasuries.
So your already over a trillion dollars off your statements.
As to China's growth.
If your making $1 an hour and get a raise to $10 an hour, thats a 1,000% increase.
But if your making $500 an hour and get a $10 raise, you only received a 2% increase.
So of course China's growth numbers look good, they started out so far down, any improvement at all, sounds huge.
But China's Per captia GDP is still 109th in the world.
Thats behind Columbia, Botswanna, Trinidad and Tobago and Aruba.
======================================...
And just how would you know if there has been social unrest in China ?
it is not like China allows a free press.
It's not like China allows any westerner to travel outside the capitol unaccompanied and controlled.
You should like you don't like the idea that the US does not trade with Cuba ?
Why would you mind that ?
Your not gonna say that it has somehow hurt Cuba , are you ?
Not with the rest of the world trading with Cuba,
You cannot say that just not trading with one country out of 192 countries has somehow hurt Cuba?
Is somehow trading with America more important than trading with the rest of the world ?????
Reply:You are right. And they also know that the eyes of the world are distracted on the Middle east, Iraq and the Emerging power in Iran. They are able to get away with more now.
Also, Due to our huge defecit, in order to fund our Country's operation we have to sell bonds. China currently holds one trillion dollars in Bonds, our annual payment on those bonds is about $75 billion. China's defense budget is about $150 billion (that can do more due to lower wages and costs). So we are paying for half of China's military build up. Helping to arm and create our next enemy.

What country gives more in aid to other nations ? why don`t you go to your stupid olympics in china and try to write a web posting like that about "your" great country that sensors ALL independent thought.

not bad. Remember too China still can't feed itself, pays slave wages for slave hours of work, and their own people are finding any means to leave. And if it wasn't for greedy U.S. companies looking for cheap ways to do things, or importing all the inferior goods here, China still would have nothing.
