A lot of psychology words are floating on the US TV right now. One of them is “paranoia”. I checked it with the Cambridge Dictionary Online. It reads: “ an extreme and unreasonable feeling that other people do not like you or are going to HARM you.”
That HARM definition brings a question into my mind, (nothing to do with Cho): In the past 5 to 8 years, the US think tanks and media have published or circulated “China Threat” constantly. Recent examples are: “The Coming Wars with China”; “The Coming Collapse of China Economy”(published in 2000, which predicted it coming in five years.) “China Taking Over the US, the Pacific-----?” etc. etc.
On the China side, it was dumbfounded first, not knowing what to do. Then it started to explain, having published “China’s Peaceful Rise”, among others. But China’s response has little effect; and the US is hell bent on wide-spreading “China Threat”
So, the question is: which country is suffering paraoia, China or the US?
Which Country is Suffering “Paranoia”, China or the US ?
you are
Reply:I want this rumour squashed immediately.
I am not paranoid. It's just that there's this world conspiracy against me.
I hope this is clearly understood.
Reply:I suggest that if you have satellite TV or access to satellite TV then check out Fox news, if you haven't already, and you will see more paranoia than in the local nuthouse. I have to say they are the propoganda channel for Bush and his administration and it is like watching a road crash - you cannot tear your eyes away. Everything, from major movies to childrens cartoons are dissected and scrutinised for hidden messages which might have a political bearing. Check it out, and you will never need to ask questions like this one again!
Reply:This is a bit one-sided. There are those in China who see the U.S. as a threat as well. So I would say it isn't an either/or question: both can be suffering from paranoia. Yes?
Reply:The US, because they're the ones paranoid about China.
Reply:US.
Reply:That is a stereotype, dude. You can't blame all asian looking guys for it. It was one guy with issues.
Kind of like 9-11.
Reply:What do you think of paranoia, as British we are. The Americans don't care, the Chinese lead their own life and don't understand what's mean.
Reply:Well, they are right in saying there will soon be an issue with China. Our two nations are on paths that will converge soon. A conflict will occur, the size, scope and nature of the conflict are what are really in debate. We may be able to deal with it peacefully. However, Communist nations are historically not very talkative with capitalist nations.
Reply:As a citizen of the USA who has visited China and been to many provinces there, I'd have to say that the USA is far out in front with paranoia than the average person in China.
Then again, China's people are, for all of the glitz and glitter, standing behind a veneered screen which gives all the appearance of a thoroughly modern society which it is not. Step off just a few blocks from the tall and beautifully built glass and steel buildings, go behind the "movie set" facade that the tourist sees and get into the real China which is still so far behind the USA that it's almost incomprehensible.
We are the envy of the rest of the world.
Hand in hand with envy is jealousy which generates hate, so why should anyone be surprised that we've developed paranoia?
In fairness to the Chinese people, they are captivated with the styles, music, movies, even our food and would dearly love to become our equals. Our economies are dependent upon one another and neither of our countries can afford to engage in hostilities that would give rise to ceasing that relationship.
But political control and influence over their own people plays a very major "face" role in the way China propagandizes their own people, it's their way of maintaining dictatorial control.
But know that, for many decades, the best and brightest Chinese come to the USA for their college educations. That counts for something, it will eventually work to the mutual advantage of both countries.
