Are Americans worried of China's rising power?

A lot of countries want China to play leader role in international community simply because they don't want any country policing the world. China does not set double standards and is not arrogant. With China's economy growing fast, can America still afford to bully third world countries?

Are Americans worried of China's rising power?
Well, one set of Americans is worried: the military. Not so much because of their rise in power and wealth, but because of Taiwan. Our government has pretty much promised Taiwan that we'd protect them.

So, if China decides to "take back" Taiwan, we'd have to either abandon our promise to protect Taiwan or face fighting China. That's a pretty scary thought!

On the third world country front, you are absolutely right. Venezuela is a good example, having an excellent and willing customer for probably as much oil as it wants to sell in China!
Reply:"China does not set double standards and is not arrogant."

Really - you believe this, do you?

And you expect us to believe it, do you?

Good luck!
Reply:We're not as worried as we were two weeks ago. In the interim the global economic experts have determined that China's GDP is WAY lower than originally calculated - by 6 trillion dollars if memory serves me. These experts tell us that we don't need to worry about China becoming a military might in the near future because they have other economic troubles relating primarily to having such a huge population.

China doesn't set double standards and is not arrogant? What do you mean? It's a totalitarian, communist regime that exploits jillions of its own poor, contaminates the planet in the name of its own economic/industrial growth and whose male population either smokes and/or eats the parts of endangered species to enhance their virility. Let's not forget the popular habit of the ignorant poor of committing female infanticide (or more recently, abortion) so they can be sure to have a son to support them in their old age.

You might be a male Chinese -- just guessing -- or you would not make such blatantly lame remarks about the US. We are not perfect by any means, and our society is not well balanced, but to say we're bullying third world countries when we're actually subsidizing many of them is misinformed.

One solution to our problems would be not allow anyone to immigrate who is not financially solvent and capable of contributing vs. being on the dole. I'm tired of our government trying to save the whole damned world and saddling us all with a deficit.
Reply:China's economy is the greatest thing on Earth, however, I don't think that China is going to get involved in many of the US's affairs. They are a nuclear power, but I don't think that they care to "bully" or "protect" third-world (or close to) countries.
Reply:"A lot" of countries want a communist regime to play a leader role in the international community. How embarrassingly ignorant.
Reply:NO%26lt; The USA has all of it's ducks in a row.

The USA will have a few surprises for everyone soon.
Reply:Nope because they are screwing up there country with all the polluation and there middle class live like the hobos in our country there top 10 percent of chinas class is our top 40 percent money wise. So nope not worried at all
Reply:Dear friend, i humbly write to you from my modest little village.

In our village we also used to think that about china too. Only when i started to tour outside my village did i gain considerable wisdom and knowledge. i further realized that this belief of mine was proved wrong.

As i do not know the ultimate answer to that question i can only assume that china is a considerable force in power politics and eventually they will be a great world power and will join the U. S. and A. and CCCP to consume third world countries.
Reply:No the world is becoming one Global Village and should every one cooperate and live in peace,
Reply:Eventually they will take our place, if they haven't already. We made the mistake of stretching ourselves too thin. Unless China does the same soon then we may need to watch out, hopefully they don't start with us.
