America is downfalling and China is rising?

my government teacher said today that China will soon become a world power in the near future and that we should all hurry up and learn chinese because English won't be an universal language for much longer. I don't know if he's joking or not...but is that true?

America is downfalling and China is rising?
Yes. It'll probably take another 20 yrs for China to become the dominant power, but that is the way its heading.

The 20th Century was the American Century. The 21st will most likely be the Chinese Century...
Reply:I don't think America is downfalling....it's only if we let it be. If we improve our education (instead of worrying about the political bs), there's no reason why we can't maintain our status. China will be a world power, but doesn't mean US is not one when China becomes one. As for languages, it's the cycle of civilizations. There's no language that will forever be universal. I'm sure a few hundred years ago, no one would have thought Latin would die out. Same thing with English, and same thing with Chinese (if it becomes a universal language).
Reply:It already is,they have 1 trillion us $ in reserve. English will always be a universal language.
Reply:I doubnt China will become a world language mainly because it is one of the hardest languages to learn and Chinese dont have a written script but thousands of pictures or whatever they are called to memorize.

Chinese is limited to only a few countries and mainly spoken only by the ethnic Chinese of that place(Such as Malaysia and Singapore)

English is still the most studied language by non native speakers and Chinese are studying it. English also uses Latin script, the script most people use.

China is rising though I am not sure if it could survive is the US collapsed since Chinas reserved are heavily in the US dollar and rely on manufacturing goods to Americans, if the US collapsed the dollar would lose most of its value and Americans wouldnt be able to afford to buy luxury goods. Most production would be moved back to the US since it would be cheaper and Millions of Chinese would lose there jobs.
