A Rose Tree of China is a shrub and I would like it now
Where can I buy a Rose Tree of China ?
It's more commonly called Flowering Almond (Prunus triloba) or Dwarf Flowering Almond ( Prunus glandulosa) . Try a local garden center . While you're there , look at all the other plants . I'd bet EVERY one of them is more worthwhile. ;D I'm partly joking, but mostly not . It looks good for about a week , %26amp; looks like crap the other 51 weeks . Very prone to insects, disease , %26amp; winterkill . Afterall, it IS a Prunus(cherry). If you must have it , put it out of the way, where you can ignore it, when not in bloom . If all else fails, look for it at Wal-Mart,(last place I saw it, ~ 5yrs ago) and other such places . It's a perfect fit for them.
* From Michael Dirr , in THE MANUAL OF WOODY LANDSCAPE PLANTS " ....the bargain basement shrub of many discount store;...". ; "..a spreading, weakly multi-stemmed, straggly shrub.."; .. "Basically a a very poor plant, single season quality, appearing distraught and alone in summer, fall , and winter..;" .... "disappears when not in flower.Perhaps it's not all bad...: %26amp; about the non-dwarf, dbl form : " ..is a large(12-15') cumbersome, clumsy shrub, with tree-like qualities..." ; " ..are often nipped by a late freeze ..."
I agree . Should I continue ? ;D Think : VIBURNUM,FOTHERGILLA, SASKATOON SERVICEBERRY ( AMELANCHIER ALNIFOLIA) ( Please!)
